Beauty Therapist Reveal: Softening Fine, Dehydration Lines is Easier Than You Think
At Jersey Beauty Company we love learning about how our skin works, so we can treat the issues we might have with our skin to make sure we have happy healthy skin. Like fine lines and wrinkles. Many of us just don’t understand the underlying causes of fine lines and deepening wrinkles isn’t just ageing – it’s dehydration.
So we asked Guinot skin therapist Jodie all about dehydration and fine lines and what we can use to help treat and protect our skin.
Dehydration and Fine Lines
So let’s say first, as we always do, we love wrinkles and lines – they’re a part of the natural ageing process. And they don’t affect your beauty! But far from just being a sign of natural ageing, fine lines and wrinkles are caused a lot these days by environmental factors, and that’s a sign our skin isn’t as healthy as it could be!
Skin therapist Jodie explains how things like pollution in the air, weathering and stress can also cause fine lines and wrinkles. And of course, dehydrated skin. Which is different to dry skin – whereas dry skin lacks oil, dehydrated skin lacks water. And that starts to have an effect on the deeper layers of the skin, causing fine lines and wrinkles.
So there's a lot of factors that can lead to fine lines and what we need to do, to have healthy happy skin, is to address those factors.
Fine Lines Don’t Appear Overnight!
So the other day I was brushing my teeth and I looked in the mirror and there it was – a brand new fine line on my forehead! And the night before, when I put my moisturiser on it wasn’t there. I don’t know where it came from but it appeared overnight.”
Right, let’s get one thing straight – fine lines and wrinkles don’t appear overnight. They are the result of a process. Often to do with dehydration. And it’s a slow process.
When your skin is dehydrated for a king period at the epidermis level (that’s the upper layers of your skin) it starts to affect the deeper layers of skin (the dermis). You will have less collagen in those deeper layers – the stuff that makes your skin look plump. That’s when you will start to see those fine dehyrdation lines appearing.
So it may seem like an overnight thing but actually it’s the result of a much longer process.
How can I tell if my skin is dehydrated?
Your skin might feel tight, especially just after you’ve cleansed. It's that tightness that indicates that there's a lack of moisture within the skin. You might also feel like putting moisturiser on, that tightness is relieved as if your skin is saying, "Ah, thank you, that's just what I needed."
Skin Therapist Jodie’s Mirror Test
- Grab a mirror at home.
- Raise your skin from the jaw level using your finger, very slightly, you might see little tiny fine lines.
- What you'll see is those little dehydration lines that start to appear.
We need to work with that, we need to replenish the moisture level, we need to put all
of that moisture back into the skin to keep our skin looking plump, hydrated and healthy.
Always Treat Fine Dehydration Lines With a Moisturiser
So the answer for treating fine dehydration lines starts with your moisturiser. Moisturiser is such an important part of your daily skincare routine and is what we need to start to rehydrate our skin and treat the root causes of those deepening lines and wrinkles.
Skin therapist Jodie says Guinot Crème Hydra Beaute is her top tip for a moisturiser to start work on rehydrating your skin. It saturates your skin in moisture, leaving your skin feeling comfortable and fantastic.
That sounds heavy? Nope. It’s actually a really light moisturiser with a light texture. It sinks into the skin really easily so you’re not left with a film on the surface of your skin.
But it’s what it’s doing under the skin that we’re really interested in for rehydrating your skin. It penetrates deeper into the skin and feeds the deeper layers of skin. It’s a Guinot tube product – so it’s all about repairing the skin, which is exactly what dehydrated skin needs.
How does it work?
It has the Guinot hydrocyte complex, which is designed to deliver thirst quenching levels of moisture, even to the deeper layers of skin, locking in the moisture to help repair and protect your skin. It also has shea Butter and aloe that deeply moisturise and nourish the skin further, helping to protect the lipid barrier.
It’s effectively a blast of rehydration daily to repair and protect your dehydrated skin.
Masque it up!
Great! So we’ve got it sorted with a moisturiser? Well, yes, but remember how we said that this isn’t an overnight thing. Your fine lines and wrinkles are a sign your skin has been dehydrated for a long time, so it will take a build-up of using a moisturiser to start seeing results. Which is why adding a masque twice a week is a great way to see more instant results.
The Masque Hydra Beaute just drenches the skin in a bath of moisture and plumps up the cells and the upper layers of the epidermis. It works to replenish and rehydrate your skin, restoring its moisture balance. It leaves your skin rehydrated and radiant, soft and supple. And best of all it has instant results.
Treat Yourself Tuesday and Facial Fridays
That’s skin therapist Jodie’s recommendations. Well, it doesn’t have to be those days… but try and use the masque twice weekly, on top of your moisturiser, which you’ll be using twice daily. The Masque only needs to be on for ten minutes and it will leave your skin feeling amazing. So why not treat your skin to a moisture bath.
Guniot Derma Liss and Open Pores
Alongside fine dehydration lines and wrinkles, one cause for concern we hear a lot at Jersey Beauty Company is about enlarged pores. As we age some of us start to notice open pores. Guinot Derma Liss is a great face cream to help with this. It has three active ingredients:
- Soft Focus Powder that smoothes the skin’s surface.
- Hyaluronic acid spheres that instantly fills wrinkles and lines, providing long lasting hydration.
- Pore Perfector that purifies and visibly minimises pores whilst refining the skin’s texture.
After chatting to skin therapist Jodie, we feel a lot more confident about treating our ageing skin, and recognising that the causes of fine lines and wrinkles are often not just a natural part of the ageing process. By treating our dehydrated skin with a regular skin care routine that rehydrates our thirsty skin, we can have happier healthier skin.
