Cleansing, toning and moisturising are all essential parts of the perfect skincare routine, but have you heard of the 7 Skin Method? 7 skin’s method is a Korean beauty treatment that is loved by skin care fans around the world. In a nutshell, it involves applying up to seven layers of toner in between your cleanser and moisturiser - yes 7 layers!
In Korea, toners are commonly referred to as ‘skins’, so the 7 skin method actually means 7 toner method. It might sound a bit strange to add a product to your skin upto 7 times. You are probably thinking, surely once is enough?! Our skin is often chronically dehydrated thanks to central heating, air conditioning etc. Using the 7 skins method delivers results of plump and hydrated skin. By layering your toner multiple times, your skin gets to absorb more of the hydrating ingredients one layer at a time, ultimately giving you more hydrated and healthier skin. When your skin is fully hydrated, all the other products you use actually work better.
How do I do the 7 skins method?
This may all be sounding a bit strange to you. The 7 Skin Method can be used for all skin types and aims to help fully rehydrate your skin. If you fancy seeing what the 7 skins method can do for your skin, read on.
Start off by cleansing your face with your usual cleanser and then gently pat your skin until it’s slightly damp.
Apply a small amount of toner onto a cotton pad and wipe it over your face and neck. You can also use a hydrating mist if you prefer.
With your skin still damp, pat the same amount of toner onto your skin using your hands (this is gentler on your face than a cotton pad). Or spritz your mist over your face and neck again and gently pat it into your skin.
Repeat the last step two or three more times, gradually building up to a total of seven applications. Wait between each step so the toner is absorbed by each layer. You only need a tiny amount with each layer.
When you’ve applied the last layer, finish by applying a serum if you use one or moisturising your skin. You can do this morning or evening. You are basically slowly feeding the thirsty skin as much as it’ll take. Eventually, it won’t need as much but it can take months to get there.
What toners can I use?
A toner is a key part of any skincare routine. Toners can hydrate, clear up, exfoliate, shrink the appearance of pores and brighten your skin and leave you with smoother, hydrated skin. However, skincare products often evaporate or don’t absorb properly. Instead, using the 7 Skin Method could be the key to boosting your skin’s hydration levels.
First and foremost, make sure to choose an alcohol-free toner Avoid using toners that contain alcohol for this method as they can irritate and dry out your skin, even if it’s oily.
Natural or alcohol-free toners are loaded with hydrating, soothing ingredients that are gentle yet effective. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, urea, amino acids, peptides, proteins, lactic acid and aloe vera.
