3 Skin Routines from a Guinot Therapist

When it comes to skin routines, at Jersey Beauty Company we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all skin solution. Every person is unique and so their skin needs will be unique. Your skin needs will also change, depending on all kinds of external and internal factors. External factors like the environment, pollutants, sun exposure can all impact our skin needs. Internal factors, for example, as we age, our skin naturally changes – the ageing process is something we embrace at Jersey Beauty Company. We want to understand how to have amazing, healthy skin whatever our age and life circumstances.
We’ve already said your skin is unique. So it might seem odd to now talk about just three skin routines. We do all share some similar skin concerns – it may be that your skin needs a combination of these routines. But we thought it was a good place to start.
So we asked Guinot therapist Nicola about three different skin routines for common skin concerns – a dry skin routine, an ageing skin routine and a brightening skin routine.
Meet Guinot’s Nicola Pringle
At Jersey Beauty Company we love learning about our skin from the experts. We know great skin education is the key to treating our skin with the right skin care routine. Nicola is a training development executive for Guinot and Mary Cohr in the UK. Her day-to-day job is training beauty therapists in the use of the Guinot product treatments all over the UK. Nicola has been working with Guinot for over fifteen years and has been a trainer for five years, so she knows her stuff!
A Bit About Guinot
Guinot is a French skincare brand. It's been around since the 1960s. The ethos is professional skin care recommended by a professional, who has been trained in the products and the procedures. Every single product is packed with active ingredients.

Three Different Skin Routines
So it might be that you pick and mix from the three different routines, as Guinot therapist Nicola explains. By going through three different routines we can get a really good insight into Guinot and the types of products we can use.
Dry Skin Care Routine
A lot of people confuse dry skin and dehydrated skin. When your skin is dry you will get flaky bits, redness and maybe some sensitivity. This is dry skin – it isn’t lacking water, it is lacking oil. Understanding the basics of dry skin is vital to be able to treat it in the right way, Nicola explains. With dry skin, it's all about making it soft, making it supple and comfortable, and really replenishing the oils lost within the skin. With products developed for dry skin, you may find the textures tend to be a little bit richer, and Guinot products that are catered for dry skin tend to contain things like essential oils and natural, nutritive oils like evening primrose, jojoba oil.
Guinot handily name their products for dry skin with things like Hydra – and Nutri - so you can get a sense of what they’re doing for your skin.
Guinot Lait Hydra Confort
Nicola recommends Guinot Lait Hydra Confort as a great cleanser for dry skin.
What makes this cleanser great for dry skin?
Guinot Lait Hydra Confort contains shea oil – which helps to nourish, to comfort, to soften the skin, and really improve the cell cohesion to bind the cells together.
It also has fig extract which adds moisture, reduces water loss and has gentle exfoliating properties.
Oh and it smells amazing – which is always an added benefit!
How to use it:
It is perfect to use about two to three pumps of this cleanser, working in circular motions. You can splash it off with water. It will help to emulsify take off make-up and anything that your skin's picked up throughout the day; pollution, oils, any bacteria.
Guinot Hydra Confort
Guinot therapist Nicole recommends following cleansing with Guinot Hydra Confort – a cream based toner, which works work in partnership and synergy with the cleanser.
What makes this toner great for dry skin?
It contains lotus, which is a flower plant great for soothing and softening the skin.
It doesn't contain any alcohol.
It’s great for keeping the skin hydrated throughout the day.
How to use it
You would apply it just on a cotton pad straight after cleansing.
Why do we need toner?
It rebalances the pH of your skin, refreshes and completes the cleansing bit of your skin care routine.

Guinot Gommage Eclat Parfait
Nicola recommends Gommage Eclat Parfait, which is one of the Guinot exfoliators.
What makes this exfoliator great for dry skin?
This contains granules, micro-particles, so it does give a mechanical exfoliation to the skin. It contains two different types of particles - shale microbeads and exfoliating micro-particles.
It has sweet Almond Oil that softens and nourishes the skin.
It has liposkin which replenishes the skin’s lipids and restores the protective hydrolipidic film, reinforcing the skin barrier.
How To Use It
Apply once or twice a week to a damp face and next, taking care to avoid the eye contour area.
Using the fingertips, rub with light circular movements then rinse with water.
Guinot Masque Essential Nutrition Confort
Nicola recommends following the exfoliation twice weekly with Guinot Masque Essential Nutrition Confort.
What makes this masque great for dry skin?
This is a masque for dry skin, but also it can be used by all skin types to give a nice radiance and well-being.
The main active ingredients are essential oils which give energy to the skin – thyme, rosemary and lavender.
It's got nutritive oils and jojoba oil, which softens the skin and nourishes the skin.
How to use it:
You can apply a very, very thin application of this over the face and neck, leaving it on for 10
minutes twice weekly, ideally after exfoliation, to give your skin energising radiance.
Guinot Crème Nutrition Confort
Nicola recommends Guinot Crème Nutrition Confort, a nourishing and comforting moisturiser.
What makes it great for dry skin?
It has a lovely, rich texture which dry skin tends to love to create suppleness, softness and to nourish the skin.
It’s packed full of vitamins and essential fatty acids to help repair the hydrolipid barrier.
How to use It:
Apply it twice daily to the throat and face, using circular upwards motion ensuring the whole of the area is covered. Wait a few minutes for the product to be fully absorbed.
Ageing Skin Routine
A common concern for ageing skin is deepening lines and wrinkles in our 30’s and 40’s. Wrinkles and fine lines are a natural part of the ageing process, and we are firmly not against wrinkles! But we do also know that they can be a sign of dehydrated skin, especially when fine lines start to appear early on.
Cell Turnover
Our skin cell production should be around every 30 days, but as we age, skin cell production starts to slow down. Those new little cells and that are born in the base layer of your epidermis, the production of them slows down. This is why as we age we get thinner skin, and why bone structure becomes more evident as well. It's really important we are focusing on stimulating new cell production, and Guinot call that regeneration process.
Guinot Longue Vie
Guinot have a range called Longue Vie - products that contain a complex that stems from Guinot's research called cellular life complex. It’s made up of 56 different active ingredients - amino acids and vitamins, minerals and trace elements. It's almost like a cocktail of ingredients that's essential to the life of the cells. It helps to stimulate new cell production.
Far from being an anti-ageing gimmick, Guinot Longue Vie has been developed to stimulate cell growth. A part of its development involved putting the creams on skin grafts in a burns unit to see it grow new cell cultures.
Guinot Longue Vie Cou
Guinot Longue Vie Cou is a neck cream from Guinot and Nicola says it is definitely something that you should think about adding into your regime, maybe even from early 30s. Sometimes the neck area can be neglected - we might miss it out in our facial skin care and then in the products we use on the rest of the skin. Guinot Longue Vie Cou contains the cellular life complex, the 56 different active ingredients and it will really help to tighten and firm the skin within the neck and help to plump up any fine dehydration lines.
A small pea-size amount should be applied twice daily, working upwards, even from just below the collar bone, upwards motions to the jaw line to meet the moisturiser.
Guinot Longue Vie Levres
The name means long life to the lips. This is another area that is often neglected. Your lip skin is naturally thinner and as you age, the skin loses volume and density within your lips. Lips become thinner and maybe even things like lipstick and lip liner will start to bleed off.
Guinot Longue Vie Levres actually works to plump out the lip area. It is a soft cream that defines the lip area and works to stimulate new cell production for a more voluminous lip area.
Guinot Derma Liss
Guinot Derma Liss is another great product for ageing skin. It is a face treatment product that will help to plump out deepening lines and wrinkles by working to sort out the dehydration those deepening lines and wrinkles are a sign of.
It contains hyaluronic acid which we love at jersey Beauty Company. It is a fantastic hydrating ingredient, which holds up to 1000 times its weight in water. Hyaluronic acid actually sips into the groove of the line and the wrinkle, and it will naturally inflate by collecting water from surrounding epidermis. It works by giving a physical plumping action into the lines and wrinkles, giving the skin a smooth surface.
Guinot Masque Vital Antirides
This is an anti-fatigue face Masque. It contains dermostimuline which is the part of fruit that is adjacent to the seeds of a passion fruit. It works in conjunction with the dermostimulines to encourage skin cell renewal and the regeneration process. Apply as fine line area of the face and neck. Leave on for 10 minutes after exfoliating and you’ll see a much smoother boost to the skin.
Brightening Skin Routine
We asked Guinot therapist about her favourite products from Mary Cohr as well, as the two companies are sister companies and Nicola also trains therapists in Mary Cohr.
Mary Cohr Exquisite Shimmering Oil
This oil is great for use after showering for the whole body. It brightens dull skin that may be dehydrated. It is a spray formula so is really quick and easy to apply. Nicola recommends it as a great way to revitalize dull tired skin all over the body, leaving it with a beautiful glimmer.
Mary Cohr Lily Essences Mild Exfoliator
If you like the iridescent shimmer left behind by the oil, this is a great product that has a similar effect on the face. It gently exfoliates the skin and leaves it looking and feeling amazing and healthy. It is suitable for sensitive skin and great for brightening the skin.
Mary Cohr Ice Lift Masque
For a treat for the skin, Nicola recommends the Mary Cohr Ice Lift Masque that has a dual action brightening effect. It has a gel based consistency, with a cooling icy effect which also firms skin, restoring collagen and elastin so is ideal for ageing skin.
Whatever your unique skin concerns, Nicola is sure that Guinot and Mary Cohr have amazing skin care products for you. You might want to pick and choose from the different treatments Nicola has introduced us to.
